St Mawes

A harbour side village in a glorious position curled around a sunny south-facing bay with a safe anchorage and good beaches for swimming and sunbathing. There are shops, cafes, pubs and restaurant around the harbour.
Visit St Mawes castle. This is a fine example of Tudor military architecture. It was built during the reign of Henry VII as a defence against French invasion.

Porthscatho

Porthscatho lies in a sheltered cove in a corner of Gerrans Bay and is still an active fishing village. There are extensive sandy beaches nearby. The TV drama “The Camomile Lawn” was filmed near here.

St Just in Roseland

This village’s main attraction is its church.  Set in magnificent gardens overflowing with sub tropical shrubs and trees the church perches on the edge of the creek. A path leads from the creek onto the coastal footpath which continues to St Mawes. This is a delightful walk of two miles.

Veryan

This is a village of particular charm. It has its lovely church and its roundhouses. The roundhouses were built in the early 19th century to guard against evil, as there would be no corner the devil could hide.

Caerhays Castle Garden

An informal 60 acre woodland garden noted for its camellias, magnolias and rhododendrons. Awarded National Collection Status in 200, the grounds at Caerhays contain over 450 magnolias.

The King Harry Ferry

Voted one of the top ten ferry crossings in the world it connects St Mawes and the Roseland, Feock, Truro and Falmouth. It is one of only five chain ferries in England.

Portloe

Portloe is considered by many to be the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and one of the prettiest villages in Cornwall. It’s stepp sided valley has meant that it has managed to escape development over the years and many buildings differ little from when they were built. Sir John Betjeman said of Portloe “one of the least spoilt and most impressive of Cornish fishing villages”
The village is a popular movie and TV series location with moves such as Forever England, Irish Jam and Treasure Island shoot here. TV series such as The Camomile Lawn and Wild West also used the village as a location.
